Best Luxury Hotels in South Kensington
Published 21 October 2026
South Kensington is London's museum quarter. The Natural History Museum, the V&A and the Science Museum line Exhibition Road, the Royal Albert Hall sits just to the north, and the white stucco streets around them are full of townhouse hotels. It is calm, elegant and very central: Harrods and Knightsbridge are a short walk east, Chelsea and the King's Road lie to the south, and Hyde Park is ten minutes away. These are the five we would choose; for The Kensington, The Gore, Number Sixteen and The Ampersand, see our Kensington hotel guide. If you are planning around this part of town, our South Kensington, Gloucester Road and Kensington area pages are the natural next step.
The Adria
The Adria occupies a Victorian townhouse on Queen's Gate, built in 1870 and restored behind its original stucco façade. With just 22 rooms and suites it feels more like a private house than a hotel, and in 2026 it was awarded a Michelin Key, the only hotel on this list to hold one. Bathrooms are finished in Italian marble with underfloor heating, and the rooms are among the most individually styled in the area. Downstairs there is a Games Room, the Polo Lounge for drinks and the Garden Room, whose retractable roof opens on warm evenings. The Natural History Museum and the Royal Albert Hall are both a short walk away, as are South Kensington and Gloucester Road stations.

The Pelham
Set in a row of townhouses on Cromwell Place, almost opposite South Kensington station, The Pelham is one of the most convenient hotels in the area, part of the Starhotels Collezione group. Its fifty or so rooms are warm and traditional, with Penhaligon's toiletries, and the public rooms include a library and an honesty bar. La Trattoria, run by the Michelin-starred chef Alfredo Russo, serves Italian food, and the bar next door is a relaxed spot for an aperitivo. There is also a 24-hour gym. The V&A and the Natural History Museum are a couple of minutes' walk away, and Harrods is an easy stroll along the Brompton Road.

100 Queen's Gate
Part of Hilton's Curio Collection, 100 Queen's Gate fills a restored terrace of 1870s Victorian townhouses at the southern end of one of Kensington's grandest streets. With 228 rooms and suites it is the largest hotel on this list, but the restoration has kept the period character, with ornate ceilings and grand staircases throughout. Cento is the Italian restaurant, ESQ serves small plates and cocktails, and the Atrium is the setting for a botanical-themed afternoon tea under a glass roof. It is a good choice for anyone who wants the comforts of a large hotel in a building with real character. The Natural History Museum, the Royal Albert Hall and Hyde Park are all within walking distance.

The Bentley London
On Harrington Gardens, a quiet residential street a few minutes from Gloucester Road station, The Bentley is the most opulent hotel in South Kensington, with marble, gilt and crystal chandeliers throughout its grand nineteenth-century building. There are 64 bedrooms, decorated in the same lavish style. Peridot is the restaurant and the Malachite cocktail lounge is a polished spot for a drink before dinner. The Le Kalon Spa has a marble hammam, and there is a gym for guests. It suits anyone who likes their luxury traditional and unashamedly lavish, with Sloane Street, the King's Road and Harrods all within easy reach.

The Exhibitionist
Behind a classic white stucco townhouse façade on Queensberry Place, The Exhibitionist is the boldest-looking hotel in South Kensington, with vivid colours, contemporary art and neon pieces lining the corridors. It has 37 rooms and suites, and the Splash suites come with their own private Jacuzzi. At the top of the house, the Jimmie Martin Penthouse has a private roof terrace. The hotel is about three minutes' walk from South Kensington station, with the Natural History Museum, the V&A and the Science Museum practically on the doorstep. It suits couples who want a hotel with some personality and a sense of fun rather than period grandeur.
