London Hotel Guide

Best Luxury Hotels in Chelsea

Published 1 October 2026

Chelsea does luxury quietly. Rather than big grand hotels, it specialises in townhouse hotels on leafy garden squares, a few minutes from Sloane Square and the King's Road. This guide picks six of the best: The Cadogan, a Belmond hotel on Sloane Street with a colourful Victorian past; 11 Cadogan Gardens, an intimate red-brick townhouse on a quiet square; The Chelsea Townhouse, formerly The Draycott, spread across three townhouses; Beaverbrook Town House, with suites named after London theatres; San Domenico House, a former private residence from 1887; and The Franklin, overlooking a private garden square on Egerton Gardens. Knightsbridge and the South Kensington museums are an easy walk away.

Chelsea does luxury quietly. Rather than big grand hotels, it specialises in townhouse hotels on leafy garden squares, a few minutes from Sloane Square, the King's Road and the boutiques of Sloane Street. It feels residential, polished and unhurried, and it suits visitors who would rather have a drawing room and a garden than a lobby full of shopping bags. These are the six we would choose. If you are planning around this part of town, our Chelsea, Knightsbridge and South Kensington area pages are the natural next step.

The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel

On Sloane Street, The Cadogan has one of the more colourful histories of any London hotel. The actress Lillie Langtry's former home forms part of the building, and Oscar Wilde was arrested here in 1895. Today it is run by Belmond, with elegant, modern rooms and a calm, residential feel, and guests can use the private gardens of Cadogan Place across the road. Most of its 54 rooms are suites, and guests can also book the private tennis courts in the gardens. Willett's, the hotel's British bar and bistro, is a relaxed spot for lunch or a drink after shopping on Sloane Street.

11 Cadogan Gardens

Set in red-brick Victorian townhouses on a quiet, tree-lined garden square just off Sloane Square, 11 Cadogan Gardens is one of Chelsea's most intimate luxury hotels. Its drawing room is the social heart of the house, the atmosphere is grown-up and discreet, and the King's Road and Sloane Street are a couple of minutes away. It has 56 rooms and suites and is one of only two Relais & Châteaux members in London. Hans' Bar and Grill and The Chelsea Bar mean you can eat and drink well without leaving the square.

The Chelsea Townhouse (formerly The Draycott)

Spread across three townhouses near Sloane Square, the hotel long known as The Draycott has been refined over the years into one of Chelsea's most reliable luxury stays. Rooms are individually decorated, the garden is one of the neighbourhood's nicest spots on a summer evening, and long-serving staff give it a genuinely personal feel. It was relaunched as The Chelsea Townhouse in 2022 by the team behind 11 Cadogan Gardens, its sister hotel around the corner. Its 36 rooms and suites fill three Victorian red-brick townhouses, and dog-friendly rooms are available.

Beaverbrook Town House

The London outpost of the Beaverbrook country house hotel in Surrey, Beaverbrook Town House occupies a pair of Georgian townhouses on Sloane Street. Its fourteen suites are named after London theatres, and its Japanese restaurant, the Fuji Grill, is a destination in its own right. It is small, stylish and very Chelsea. The Fuji Grill now serves Tapasu, a Japanese take on sharing plates in the spirit of tapas. Sir Frank's Bar, with its Art Deco styling, looks out towards the gardens of Cadogan Place.

San Domenico House

Built in 1887 as a private residence, San Domenico House is a short walk from Sloane Square and still feels more like a grand family home than a hotel. Rooms are filled with antiques and rich fabrics, and the scale is small enough that staff quickly learn guests' preferences. There are just 19 rooms and suites, each with its own antique furniture and artworks. The hotel describes its character as Latin, and the warmth of the welcome bears that out.

The Franklin

On Egerton Gardens, between Chelsea and Knightsbridge, The Franklin is a townhouse hotel overlooking a private garden square. It is a short walk to Harrods in one direction and the South Kensington museums in the other, with polished rooms and a well-regarded restaurant. Its 35 rooms have interiors by Anouska Hempel, and the restaurant is run by the Michelin-starred chef Alfredo Russo, who cooks modern Piedmontese food. The Art Deco bar is known for its martinis, and there is a hammam with handmade crystal doors.
